"Healthy" Cereal Bars containing HFCS and the Greenwashing by Corporations and Agencies.

I was cleaning out a cabinet today and came across a box of Nutri-Grain Cereal Bars. By the picture on the box, one might be led to think they contain real apple and cereal...whatever cereal is supposed to be.

Just look at the ingredients of this crap they call food. High Fructose Corn Syrup is the first ingredient and is in there 3 times as well. Of course, there are a lot of culprits in this ingredient list, but this time I'm focusing on HFCS.

These bars are going in the trash... Not even donated cause I don't want to feed anyone this trash. The American Heart Association and Kellogg's really don't give a shit about our health. It's all about public image and profit and this (among many other things) proves it. In fact, most of the large food corporations care more about their bottom line than they do about our health. As the consumer, one of the best things we can do is to stop buying their crap. Yes, boycotting Kellogg's is a great start. Another thing we can do is to write them, saying that we are fully aware of the wrong they are doing by producing this garbage food, then "greenwashing" through clever marketing, leading many people to believe this stuff is actually good for them and their families. We have to start letting them know we are on to them. Start making more noise and start protesting with our pocketbooks.

Here's a list of some basic facts about High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) and sugar, plus a linkto the article. This list is really only scratching the surface. If you find this appalling or if you want to argue the merits of HCFS, please do your research then comment below.

1. Sugar in any form causes obesity and disease when consumed in pharmacologic doses.

2. HFCS and cane sugar are NOT biochemically identical or processed the same way by the body.

3. HFCS contains contaminants including mercury that are not regulated or measured by the FDA.

4. Many independent medical and nutrition experts DO NOT support the use of HFCS in our diet, despite the assertions of the corn industry.

5. HCFS is almost always a marker of poor-quality, nutrient-poor disease creating industrial food products or "food-like substances."

Keep your bloody hands Off Syria! How can you help if you don't support war with Syria

Well it has now been a year since I first came to Portland and what a year too. If someone would have told me that so many things would have happened and that I would have had so many experiences during this time, it would have been difficult to believe. But more of all that happy stuff later in a future post!

Right now there seems to be some more pressing issues so I'm just going to talk about these things instead. We are less than 5 days away from Congress voting on whether we should start a war with Syria or not. It seems that the majority of Americans, as well as the World do not want us to attack Syria, yet the propaganda machine is in full throttle mode. The charade that President Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry and Senator John McCain, their minions, including the media are playing is horribly embarrassing and immoral. This is especially obvious since they have lied to us many times in recent history. Some examples that come to mind are the Gulf of Tonkin incident, 9/11 and the Iraq War. In each of these 3 cases, our American government has lied to us in the most obvious and blatant way. Most of us are not buying it at all this time. Over a period of time, you can start to recognize the patterns when they try to perform a new false flag operation, like they are definitely doing now in Syria. There is credible evidence that our government, perhaps along with the UK has been supplying chemical weapons to the rebels, many of whom are actually a group that was number 1 on the hit list for terrorists to watch out for when they were the flavor the month boogeyman, Al Qaeda. What a slap in the face of all those who lost their lives on 9/11 and thereafter.

I'm sure this is all old news to most who may be reading this post. I'm encouraging everyone to do something to help Stop us from starting a War in Syria. There are a number of things, some really don't take much time either. I know a lot of people have a busy schedule of classic distractions like TV, but you help without too much of a time commitment. There are also things you can do to help which involve a little more of your time. A lot of time people feel like if they helped, that unless they are going all hardcore activist 100% that their effort is not worth it, useful or appreciated. There is no one size fits all solution for any of this or really for anything in life that matters. Everyone is a unique individual and capable of helping in a variety of ways.

Contact your Congressional Representative. Tell them No War in Syria!
If you are Patriotic and if you care about your country, get pissed at what they are trying to do!! Call your Congressional Representatives to tell them NO WAR in SYRIA period. Then send them emails with the same message. Find a No War in Syria protest/rally in your area and show your support and get involved. If there isn't one in your area, start one yourself! This is all unfolding in a very bad way and it is not in the best interest of the Syrian people, the American people or the people of the world to attack Syria. It is solely in the interest of the Military Industrial Complex who have hijacked our country!

Call and/or Email your Senators and Representatives in Congress and let them know how you feel about another war!!
http://www.contactingthecongress.org/

Some other things you can do is to find a protest/rally in your city or area to attend. If no rally is happening in your area, you can start one!  If you want to commit more time, you can volunteer to get more involved, such as promoting the event, making signs, fliers and banners, getting together with other activists to do these things can also be a good option for many people.
You can get together with a small group of activists and hand out fliers at public places that are busy or post them all over the place and on the windows of businesses that give you permission to do so. You can also share important info, updates and news on social networks such as Facebook, but if you do, know that you are doing a good thing and could be raising awareness for some of these issues, but more often than not, it often ends up being a whole lot of preaching to the choir. Other things to do which will be very effective in the long run is to boycott companies who support the war efforts and who are closely tied to the Military Industrial Complex.

Here's a useful article about what you can do to stop a war on Syria. This even has a list of things to say when you contact your representative.

We don't have much time to act on this. The War Machine is revved up and they are not going to back down without a fight! Let's try to minimize the damage as much as we can by making Congress vote on behalf of the people. Make a lot of noise and let's be heard! HANDS OFF SYRIA!

Here's some photos from a No War with Syria protest and march we had in downtown Portland last Saturday, Aug 31.

Mercury the Pug bouncing up the stairs!

This is the first post on this blog since May 2012 and also the first of a completely new direction for this blog.  This blog will be about everything interesting, sometimes very important, other times just fascinating or amusing or...?

This video is of little Mercury the Pug who resides in Michigan and is so special and unique, that her and other pugs are almost like a new type of species which is related to dogs, but not really a dog. Lol, she definitely has her own little personality and she is also guaranteed to make you laugh, that is one of her main intentions in life and one that she does very, very well. :)  She tries so hard to stay in sync with the music and bless her for at least giving this her full effort. Adorable little creature with black fuzzy puppy dog ears, which are also bouncing!

Using your thoughts to better your reality

Wednesday, March 28, 2012 by: Kim Evans
See all articles by this author

(NaturalNews) There's something to be said for focusing on the positive. Actually, metaphysicians and personal life coaches will tell you that focusing on the positive is everything. They'll tell you that and they'll tell you that your subconscious mind drives the reality around you. So if you're subconsciously, or consciously, focused on the negative, your subconscious mind will steer you right there.

Metaphysicians will also tell you that we create all, or most of the problems in our lives, just by this mis-thinking. Then they'll tell you that the Universe is programmed to give us exactly what our subconscious mind and our conscious thoughts and words request. So, if you repeat a negative thought over and over, even subconsciously, chances are you'll acquire it in the physical realm because you've manifested it. If you keep repeating a positive one, it works the same way.

When you start to see how this may be taking place in your life, it almost begs you to start watching your thoughts, even down to everyday little jokes. After all,why would we want to create the negative because we're merelythinking or talking it into being? Doesn't it make more sense to make some mental shifts and talk and think the positive into being? Personal coaches will tell you that the latter, plus the action to get there, will often get you to where you want to be.

Focusing on what you want, not what you don't

In some cases, it's the difference between focusing on what you do want and taking the action to get there, instead of focusing on what you don't want. Sometimes it takes some word twisting toget your thoughts into the right place once you become aware of your patterns of thought and realizethat they focus moreon the negative. But, hey, if we're not here on earth to learn and grow, what in the world are we here for?

In other cases, it seems hard to focus on the positive because we already see the negative manifestations in our lives. In these cases, it's best to use thoughts and words like, "I am manifesting abundance." Or, "I am intending vibrant health." Or on a global scale, "I am manifesting a peaceful world." Just insert whatever positive outcome you desire to come into being.

And while it's not a good idea to pretend that the bad isn't happening, it is a good idea to find the solutions to what you can do about a bad situation. Or just acknowledge that the bad is there and still focus on the positive.

When you understand that all we're seeing around us is a reflection of worldwide consciousness and what we've created and have allowed to be done to us, we start to see that elevating human consciousness is really our solution out of this mess. Because when millions of people around the world are radiating love energy at core level, we simply won't see all of the problems that we currently do. Most people currently radiate some level of fear.

Quite simply, when we are radiating love, we'll be manifesting a better reality just by being higher vibrational beings with higher vibrational thoughts and actions. Higher consciousness beings also wouldn't poison the society or the earth, as it's just contradictory in nature.

Pharmaceuticals and other unnatural and toxicchemicals lower your vibrationwhereas removing thetoxins of the past by deep cleansing raises it. In addition to keeping your mind in a positive space, it's a powerful technique to change your life by changing your vibration.

The Dangers of Soft Drinks vs Benefits of Water!

Here's something a little different for this blog, but also very relevant. Millions of Americans are consuming too many soft drinks and not enough water! This is a serious problem, which each of us can address individually by simply choosing to drink a glass of water instead of a can of soda when we're thirsty. It's also a good idea to start every day off with a big glass of water! Here are some really eye-opening facts about the wonderful benefits of drinking water compared to the awful drawbacks of consuming sodas. (Coke, Pepsi, Root Beer, Sprite....all sodas have the same harmful effects!)  This is a major epidemic and is also an example of just one of the ways the evil and corrupt system has control over us! Don't let them do this to you. Just say no to sodas!
Water vs. Coke
WATER...
  1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated (likely applies to half the world population).
  2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
  3. Even mild dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.
  4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters, a U-Washington study showed.
  5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
  6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of suffers.
  7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or a printed page.
  8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.
  9. Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day? As a rule of thumb - drink half your weight in ounces of water a day. If you workout 3+ times a week and live in a humid climate add another 24+ ounces to that number. Additionally, caffeine and alcohol dehydrate the body; drink twice the water as you did coffee or alcohol to replace water loss.
COKE...
  1. In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk of their cruisers to remove blood from the highway after an accident.
  2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone within 3 days.
  3. To clean a toilet bowl; pour a can of Coke into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.
  4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers; rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coke.
  5. The corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coke over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
  6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coke to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
  7. To remove grease from cloths: Empty a can of Coke into a load of greasy cloths, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION...
  1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in Osteoporosis.
  2. To carry Coke syrup the commercial truck must use the Hazardous Material place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.
  3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean their truck engines for about 20 years!
Now the question: would you like a glass of Water or a glass of Coke?
Author Unknown

When somebody drinks a Coke watch what happens…
  • In The First 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don’t immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down.
  • 20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat. (There’s plenty of that at this particular moment)
  • 40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked preventing drowsiness.
  • 45 minutes: Your body ups your dopamine production stimulating the pleasure centers of your brain. This is physically the same way heroin works, by the way.
  • >60 minutes: The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in your lower intestine, providing a further boost in metabolism. This is compounded by high doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners also increasing the urinary excretion of calcium.
  • >60 Minutes: The caffeine’s diuretic properties come into play. (It makes you have to pee.) It is now assured that you’ll evacuate the bonded calcium, magnesium and zinc that was headed to your bones as well as sodium, electrolyte and water.
  • >60 minutes: As the rave inside of you dies down you’ll start to have a sugar crash. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. You’ve also now, literally, pissed away all the water that was in the Coke. But not before infusing it with valuable nutrients your body could have used for things like even having the ability to hydrate your system or build strong bones and teeth.
So there you have it, an avalanche of destruction in a single can. Imagine drinking this day after day, week after week. Stick to water, real juice from fresh squeezed fruit, and tea without sweetener.

Processed Meats Declared Too Dangerous for Human Consumption

Source: Mike Adams-Health Ranger
The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) has just completed a detailed review of more than 7,000 clinical studies covering links between diet and cancer. Its conclusion is rocking the health world with startling bluntness: Processed meats are too dangerous for human consumption. Consumers should stop buying and eating all processed meat products for the rest of their lives.

Processed meats include bacon, sausage, hot dogs, sandwich meat, packaged ham, pepperoni, salami and virtually all red meat used in frozen prepared meals. They are usually manufactured with a carcinogenic ingredient known as sodium nitrite. This is used as a color fixer by meat companies to turn packaged meats a bright red color so they look fresh. Unfortunately, sodium nitrite also results in the formation of cancer-causing nitrosamines in the human body. And this leads to a sharp increase in cancer risk for those who eat them.

A 2005 University of Hawaii study found that processed meats increase the risk of pancreatic cancer by 67 percent. Another study revealed that every 50 grams of processed meat consumed daily increases the risk of colorectal cancer by 50 percent. These are alarming numbers. Note that these cancer risks do not come from eating fresh, non-processed meats. They only appear in people who regularly consume processed meat products containing sodium nitrite.

Sodium nitrite appears predominantly in red meat products (you won’t find it in chicken or fish products). Here’s a short list of food items to check carefully for sodium nitrite and monosodium glutamate (MSG), another dangerous additive:
  • Beef jerky
  • Bacon
  • Sausage
  • Hot dogs
  • Sandwich meat
  • Frozen pizza with meat
  • Canned soups with meat
  • Frozen meals with meat
  • Ravioli and meat pasta foods
  • Kid’s meals containing red meat
  • Sandwich meat used at popular restaurants
  • Nearly all red meats sold at public schools, restaurants, hospitals, hotels and theme parks
If sodium nitrite is so dangerous to humans, why do the FDA and USDA continue to allow this cancer-causing chemical to be used? The answer, of course, is that food industry interests now dominate the actions by U.S. government regulators. The USDA, for example, tried to ban sodium nitrite in the late 1970’s but was overridden by the meat industry. It insisted the chemical was safe and accused the USDA of trying to “ban bacon.” Today, the corporations that dominate American food and agricultural interests hold tremendous influence over the FDA and USDA. Consumers are offered no real protection from dangerous chemicals intentionally added to foods, medicines and personal care products.

You can protect yourself and your family from the dangers of processed meats by following a few simple rules:
  1. Always read ingredient labels.
  2. Don’t buy anything made with sodium nitrite or monosodium glutamate (MSG)
  3. Don’t eat red meats served by restaurants, schools, hospitals, hotels or other institutions.
And finally, eat more fresh produce with every meal. There is evidence that natural vitamin C found in citrus fruits and exotic berries (like camu camu) helps prevent the formation of cancer-causing nitrosamines, protecting you from the devastating health effects of sodium nitrite in processed meats. The best defense, of course, is to avoid eating processed meats altogether.

The raw (and ugly) truth about the War on Drugs! -Mike Adams

Source: Mike Adams "Health Ranger"
NaturalNews.com

Drugs are bad. Drugs destroy peoples' lives. Didn't you know that marijuana turns regular everyday people into zombie pot smokers? That's why we have a war on drugs in America: to protect our children from potheads.
Drugs are bad. Especially marijuana. I learned this the other day when I visited an elementary school as a guest speaker. The schoolchildren were well trained in describing the dangers of drugs. On command, they would spout out any number of statements describing them.
But then a funny thing happened. I started asking how many of them were on drugs. You know, drugs their doctor prescribed. Drugs that alter brain chemistry to keep them docile, or free of pain, or to dilate their lungs so they could breathe easier.
It turned out that 60% of these schoolchildren were either on drugs at that very moment, or had been on such drugs within the last twelve months. Two-thirds of the teachers were on drugs, too. And it's not at all a stretch to believe that 40% or more of all parents are on drugs. Mild-altering drugs like antidepressants, no less.

A nation of drug addicts

Fact is, we are a nation of drug addicts. We drug ourselves, our elderly and our children on a daily basis. We do it with prescription medications, over-the-counter pills, alcohol, caffeine, nicotine... and we say it's all fine because those drugs are legal. But wait a minute, you say. Those legal drugs are different from marijuana. They're FDA-approved drugs, prescribed by a doctor. They have a medical purpose.
Oh really? Ritalin has a medical purpose? What medical symptoms does Ritalin treat, then? What measurable physiological state is addressed with Ritalin? There are none, of course. Ritalin is an authority drug. It keeps children in line. It makes teachers feel less stress and parents feel less guilt. Ritalin is a mind-altering narcotic, and yet millions of children are on it today. Its purpose is not to help children, but to make life more convenient for those who manage children.
You think statin drugs have a medical purpose? Think again. In reality, they only have a profit purpose. These drugs were invented to sell pills that manage disease states in people, not that solve any real health problem. Don't believe me? Just stop taking your statin drugs, if you dare, and watch your cholesterol skyrocket. You'll find out you're a slave to the drug, and no healthier than before.

What's the difference between legal and illegal drugs?

So what's the real difference between legal drugs and illegal drugs? Some people think that only illegal drugs are habit-forming. Yet legal drugs can be just as addictive as illegal drugs. Just ask anyone who has tried to quit smoking, go off caffeine, or kick to Oxycontin habit. So is there some other difference between illegal drugs and legal drugs? People argue that legal drugs are safe. They're FDA-approved! And yet they fail to recognize that prescription drugs kill more Americans each year than all the crack, meth, and heroin deaths combined.
Okay, then, what about the argument that illegal drugs have no medicinal purpose, and legal drugs do have a medicinal purpose. What about that? Wrong again. Medical marijuana is a medically proven treatment for a variety of conditions, yet marijuana still remains illegal. Even MDMA (now called "Ecstasy" on the street) was long considered an effective "experiential drug" that helped severely traumatized adult patients overcome past pains through improved clarity. At the same time, tobacco smoke has no medical purpose whatsoever, yet cigarettes remain perfectly legal.
No, the real difference between these two classes of drugs is not their medical merit, nor their safety. The real difference is something far more sinister. It gets right down to answering the question of why DEA agents will raid medical marijuana clinics, yet stand by doing nothing while Americans smoke themselves to death on tobacco.
Want to know the real answer? I very much doubt you do. Because, like most Americans, you won't believe it. You've been blinded to the obvious truth for your whole life, manipulated by the media, and brainwashed by advertising that has turned you into a statistically-validated consumer. You'll think, no, this couldn't possibly be true. The world isn't that unjust, you think. But you're wrong. (Take the free Gullibility Factor test to find out if you're really a mind slave or not...)
Here's the raw, blunt truth about the war on drugs. Drugs are declared legal or illegal based primarily on who benefits from their manufacture, distribution and sale.

Corporate and government profits determine the legality

Let me put this another way. You know why cigarettes are still legal? Consider this: here's a product that admittedly kills people. It has no health benefit whatsoever. It is a threat to the public health. Yet why does it remain legal? Because states get a cut of cigarette sales thanks to the Big Tobacco settlement a few years back. Keeping cigarettes legal results in desperately-needed revenues for states... revenues that are almost never spent on anti-smoking campaigns, by the way. It's a classic racket: tobacco is allowed to remain legal because powerful institutions get a cut of the action. While people die from lung cancer, states get financial resuscitation by taking a cut of every sale. States are trading your health for their revenues.
Think I'm being overly cynical? Let's take a look at gambling laws. Organized gambling is illegal at both the state and federal levels in this country. Except, of course, when government gets a cut. Casino-friendly states didn't just make casinos legal for the good of the public: they legalized gambling in exchange for a cut of the action. It's a classic, mob-style "protection fee."
If you want to test this theory, launch your own online gambling website. You'll be shut down almost immediately and charged with serious crimes. Gambling and organized betting is illegal, didn't you know? That is, unless the state runs the show, as in state lotteries.
It's right in your face, folks: gambling is legal when powerful corporations or institutions get a piece of the action. It's illegal when they don't. It has nothing at all to do with morality, or protecting people, or doing what's right. It's all about money, pure and simple. Just ask all the corrupt politicians in Missouri who legalized riverboat gambling a few years back.
Getting back to drugs, why do you think alcohol remains a legal drug? Because states and cities tax it. State governments are addicted to alcoholics as a source of revenue to fund their voter entitlement programs that get politicians reelected. Alcohol is a cash machine for cities and states.
Sometimes the exact same chemical is both legal and illegal, depending on who profits from it. The FDA, for example, banned the Chinese herb ma huang because it contains ephedra. Yet the exact same chemical compound remains perfectly legal in over-the-counter drugs like Sudafed and a variety of cold medicines. Sudafed even gets its name from ephedra: "pseudo-ephedrine." So why is ephedrine illegal in herbs, yet legal in pharmacy drugs manufactured by drug companies? You already know the answer.
With all that in mind, why do you think prescription drugs that kill people remain legal? Think carefully now...
If you guessed, "Because powerful corporations generate billions in profits selling drugs, and governments get a cut of that via state sales taxes and corporate income taxes" then BINGO! You win a prize: a lifetime of free Prozac to keep you happy!

Legal drugs generate windfall profits for those in power

Think about it: if prescription drugs were peddled by street dealers instead of doctors, and if all that revenue changed hands in a non-taxable, non-corporate structure (i.e. street cash), then you'd be seeing full-scale law enforcement action against the makers, distributors and sellers of those drugs. You'd also see endless headlines about how dangerous they were: "Street painkillers kill twelve in South Miami!" The sad truth of the matter, though, is that those very same painkilling drugs killed at least twelve people in South Miami this very day. But you'll never here about it in the media. Because the news networks are sponsored by drug companies, of course. (The news is not designed to inform you, it's designed to shape your reality, to turn you into a consumer of whatever products the corporations are peddling this year. Didn't you know?)
Every drug that's legal is legal for one simple reason: somebody in a position of power is keeping it legal because they're getting a cut.

Non-patentable drugs are usually outlawed

That's why medical marijuana is illegal: because government doesn't control its distribution, nor does government receive a financial cut. You can bet your life that if Big Pharma owned the patents on medical marijuana and could set monopolistic prices on it, pot would be perfectly legal to own and smoke. That is, as long as you got it from a pharmacy where prices and distribution could be controlled. Control is the key here. You think the FDA is discrediting drugs from Canada in order to protect your health? Get real. The FDA is simply protecting the monopoly drug market in this country. It's controlling distribution points in the U.S. in the same way that a crack dealer assassinates his street corner competition. Eliminate the competition, and you can set whatever price you want. That's why uninformed U.S. consumers pay 30,000% markup prices for drugs that can be acquired in Mexico or Canada for pennies on the dollar.

It's not about your health, it's about their wealth

You see, corporate America doesn't really care what you put in your mouth, up your nose, through your lungs or into your veins, as long as they get a cut from it. That's the whole prescription drug racket in a nutshell: it's billions of dollars in annual profits generated from mind-altering (yet legal) drugs that flat-out kill people. Lots of people. Like 100,000 Americans a year (or a lot more if you believe more critical statistics). So if you've ever wondered why Ritalin -- which has no medical purpose whatsoever -- is perfectly legal, and yet medical marijuana -- which has a well-proven medical purpose -- is outlawed, now you know the answer: because Ritalin makes powerful people rich. And marijuana doesn't. Anybody can grow marijuana. Drug companies don't control the patents.

Why I teach people to be 100% drug free

Now, just for the record, I do not personally use any drugs whatsoever (recreational, over-the-counter, prescription or otherwise), and in fact, I teach people to be 100% free of all drugs, including caffeine and alcohol. I bought into the "just say no to drugs" advice of Nancy Reagan, and I actually applied it to ALL drugs, not just selective drugs. And as far as I can tell, aside from the Mormons and the Amish, there are only a small percentage of truly drug-free people living in this country. Practically everybody I meet is addicted to at least one of the following: coffee, cigarettes, alcohol, pain meds, prescription drugs or sugar (which alters brain chemistry in drug-like fashion).
At the same time, I'm not at all fooled by this silly "War on Drugs" charade, which is really nothing more than enforcement of corporate drug profits at gunpoint. If we had a genuine war on drugs in this country that really worked to protect the American people we'd send DEA agents into drug company offices and confiscate all the legalized but deadly medications being manufactured, distributed and deceptively sold to unwitting Americans today.
Medical marijuana is a threat to both the profits and power of drug companies, not to mention the credibility of the DEA. Letting grannies smoke pot in California makes DEA agents look silly. If it were allowed, it would also undermine the billions of dollars already spent incarcerating people for "pot crimes." Basically, it would make the whole War on Drugs look stupid. Which it most assuredly is, at least when it comes to marijuana.
I can understand taking a tough stance on hard drugs (crack, meth, heroin, etc.), but arresting cancer patients who smoke joints for pain control sounds a lot more like oppression than law enforcement to me.
So what is the War on Drugs? It's an excuse to control you. It is a system that keeps the population in a state of constant fear so that heroic politicians can get elected on empty promises to "keep fighting the war on drugs!"

The DEA is AWOL on most drug issues

Where is this War on Drugs when it comes to Grandma in the nursing home, who died of a stroke caused by Cox-2 inhibitor drugs? Where is the War on Drugs when little Johnny schoolboy picks up a rifle and blows away his classmates because he's on antidepressants and can't tell the difference between real life and a first-person-shooter video game? Where is the War on Drugs when 16,500 people each year die, shitting digested blood until they pass out and die because that daily dose of aspirin tore a gaping hole in their stomach? The War on Drugs, you see, turns a blind eye to the death and suffering caused by these drugs. The DEA pretends prescription drugs don't even exist. No prescription drug death has ever been prevented by the DEA as far as I know. Yet 100,000 Americans are killed each year by FDA-approved drugs. The DEA has no interest whatsoever in protecting Americans from these drugs. Ever wonder why?
The DEA is properly named, by the way. It's the Drug Enforcement Agency. It's enforcing drugs. The right drugs. The legal drugs. The drugs that make money for drug companies, drug distributors, drug retailers, cities, states and countries. It's enforcement at gunpoint, and as long as the money keeps flowing, the drugs will stay perfectly legal, regardless of who dies.
The entire distribution system is well in place: the false and misleading television advertising, the outright bribery of drug dealers (doctors), the street corner fulfillment centers (pharmacies), and the coordinating drug lord running the show (the Fraud and Drug Administration). It's a brilliant system for manufacturing, promoting, delivering and selling deadly, addictive drugs to children, adults and seniors while generating corporate profits and tax revenues for cities, states and nations.
And that's the raw truth about the War on Drugs. You may not like it, but now, at least, you know why it exists.
So I have a common sense question for all the people in this country. If you support the War on Drugs, then why are you taking so many drugs yourself? And why are you allowing your children to be drugged?

Memorial Day-Remember the thousands who lost their lives on 9/11 and the hundreds of thousands since!

We owe it to the hundreds of thousands of people who died because of 9/11, this includes all those on both sides who died simply because the Military Industrial Complex wants to further their propaganda, which is trying keeping us scared and ready to let them take away all our liberties!  It is now more than ever, so obvious that if we brought home all our troops, most of the fighting would cease. Are we able to put ourselves in their shoes and imagine how we would react to a foreign country invading our homeland and killing our family and friends? I would like to think we would be shooting back at them.  Can't we see that all we are doing is stirring up the ant bed!  And why did we go into Iraq in the first place?  They told us a story that it was to take out Saddam Hussein.  Ok, they took him out in December 2006, so why the hell are we still fighting this war and extending the war funding, 4 1/2 years later!
I hope that this Memorial Day, people will not only honor the veterans who lost their lives fighting for what they believed in, but also use this as a time to reflect on the concept of how many veterans and civilians have lost their lives, just in the last decade, fighting wars that were unnecessary and under false pretenses. Examine the evidence of 9/11 and look at the evidence with logic, instead of with the nationalistic filter of what you were told or think happened because it's such a feel good for America kind of story. I recommend visiting ae911truth.org and see for yourself the evidence that over 1500 architects and engineers have for why there is no doubt that the official story we were told was complete bull shit!

End Insanity Of The War on Drugs—Start With Decriminalizing Marijuana at The Federal Level

Ron Paul
4-20-10

In light of the recent drug-related violence in Mexico, it is appropriate to reflect on how our current prohibition laws affect crime, law enforcement and the economy.

Many will have the knee-jerk reaction of wanting to see more of a crackdown on illegal drugs. But I have to ask: Haven't we been cracking down on drugs for several decades only to see the black market flourish and the violence escalate? Could there be a more effective approach?

The illegality of drugs is, in fact, the Number One factor that keeps profits up for dealers and cartels, and ensures that organized crime dominates the market.

Cocaine, for example, has about a 17,000-percent markup and sells for more than gold in some areas. This is nothing new or unique to drugs, but a predictable outcome of prohibition.

During alcohol prohibition, Al Capone and others involved in organized crime made fortunes taking advantage of the dangerous and lucrative underground market the laws had created. Every time law enforcement makes another bust, profits rise for the remaining suppliers. These types of economic forces are insurmountable for law enforcement, but make for very good business for dealers and cartels.

"The illegality of drugs is the number one factor that keeps profits up for dealers and cartels, and ensures that organized crime dominates the market."

For the rest of us, however, it is a disaster. The war on drugs keeps our prisons full to bursting at great expense to taxpayers, but also at great danger to the public at large when the real criminals, the murderers, the rapists, the child molesters, are let out to make room for non-violent drug offenders.

We imprison more of our population per capita than Russia or China ever have, and yet criminals like Philip Garrido (Jaycee Lee Dugard's kidnapper) are out there able to rape and kidnap again and again. (It is interesting that in his case, a little marijuana caught the attention of law enforcement more than repeated reports from neighbors of children in his backyard).

The War on Drugs skews the priorities of law enforcement to the detriment of the public.

Repeal of alcohol prohibition certainly did organized crime no favors. So too today, if we wanted to pull the rug out from under violent drug cartels, create legitimate job opportunities in place of the black market, realign the priorities of law enforcement, and make room in prison for the people that ought to be there, we need to end the insanity of the War on Drugs.

My wonderful experience at the Leesburg Bikefest 2010!

Last weekend I attended the 14th Annual Leesburg Bikefest, and was glad that it wasn't scheduled a week later since it would have been too hot to really enjoy it!
Even though I'm not a biker chick and never rode on a Harley, I thought this would be a good opportunity to photograph, as well as learn more about photographing people and events.
So I grabbed my D90 and headed to the event, not knowing what to really expect since I've never been to a biker event before.
I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of bikers that attended!
This was the view on Saturday afternoon looking west on Main Street. I call this the River of Chrome cause that's the most accurate description of how it looked!
This guy whose job was to direct traffic had to stand out in the sun all day, but at least he had fun doing it! The cloth on the head was a pretty good idea too.

This event was pulled off with no hitches. The weather was perfect.....a little warm, but certainly not hot like this weekend!
There were no fatalities and everyone was extremely well behaved, yet seemed to be having a good time.

This couple was very photogenic and I appreciated their willingness to pose so graciously and without even having to ask them!
I do know one thing for sure now and that is that the Leesburg Bikefest is a BIG deal!
I never knew it was possible to cram so many people into the downtown.

It was literally wall to wall people and bikes, which made it a bit of a challenge to even just have enough room to hold up the camera.
But the best part about this event was that everyone was really enjoying themselves and obviously it was contagious because I had a really good time too. It was a lot of fun to see all the ways the people were expressing themselves.
This guy was doing everything he could to try to keep from smiling....but I guess you can call that a smile anyway, and I caught it!

Even the police seemed to be enjoying themselves and they were even a bit relaxed..... but from the overall behaviour of the crowd, was perfectly fine and I was happy to see!

Speaking of the police.....some of them even had bikes and got to demonstrate their fine biking skills for the crowd!

There were many varieties of bikes represented too, not just Harleys either.
Some could hardly even be called bikes but WHAT do you call them?

I want one of these!

Even this cute little doggie got to experience the Bikefest. Plus how many dogs are lucky enough to have their very own Harley jacket!

A boy sits on his father's shoulders to watch the band Hypersona play before Warrant blew the crowd away after sundown.

By sundown things kept getting even more interesting!

Even Santa Claus attended this event! I guess he doesn't have much to do in April....

This was the view looking east on Main Street as I caught some cool bike light trails!

I really love music so it was especially fun to have the opportunity to get live band shots. But because of the dense crowd there was no room to set up my tripod, plus I was a thousand feet from the stage, so needless to say most of the night time band photos were blurry. However, I was lucky enough to have a few turn out!

This was the band Warrant which gave a top notch, high energy performance....even though I don't really care for their songs that much. But nevertheless the crowd really enjoyed it, and anyway it was still fun to shoot!
This photo shows how far back I had to stand!
By the time I finished watching Warrant perform I wondered around a bit more, still enjoying myself but starting to get a little weary from all the excitement of the long day.

.....And it looks like a few others were starting to go home too.

All in all, it was a wonderful event and turned out to be a lot more fun than I had ever anticipated.
Now I can't wait until the 2011 Leesburg Bikefest!

Until then......I will find some more fun events to shoot and expand my horizons!
